Forest biomass: the Argentine project that seeks to innovate with renewable energy
It is the first plant that plans to produce 40 MW of “clean” energy.
According to a United Nations report, world demand for electricity is expected to increase approximately 70% by 2035. This is because the population increase in recent decades was accompanied by increased consumption Of energy, even though more than 1.3 billion people in the world do not have access to electricity.
As demand for energy continues to increase, the need to seek alternatives and solutions to this type of problem is on the agenda of many countries in the world, including Argentina.
Energy from forest biomass
Products and biodegradable waste from the vegetation of forested areas are considered forest biomass. They are a source of renewable energy based on the use of organic matter that serves as a source of clean energy. In addition, it allows to maintain well managed the environment and thanks to its extraction, it avoids problems like fires with great destructive capacity.
The use of these materials, such as residues of living beings, trunks, branches, fruits and plant residues, has great potential both for obtaining clean energy and for simultaneous care of ecosystems.
An Argentine venture
In August, it announced the beginning of a plant for the production of electricity from forest biomass, in Gobernador Virasoro, Corrientes.
This area has 214,000 hectares of forest implanted and will produce 40 MW of electricity. The initiative will diversify the energy matrix, contribute to the industrial development of the area and generate new jobs with skilled labor.
The work will require an investment of 60 million dollars that will be in charge of FRESA (Renewable Sources of Energy S.A), a company made up of two national firms: Grupo Insud and Grupo Benicio.
“This thermal power station will be more than sustainable because in addition to maintaining the environmental balance will improve people’s lives,” said Benicio Group president José Cartellone.
“I am very grateful for the contribution that this plant makes to making Virasoro an industrial pole. It will generate productive capacity, commercial exchange and qualified employment,” explained Hugo Sigman, CEO of Grupo Insud.
As a result, electricity will be released from renewable sources and will benefit the community by promoting industrial development in a sustainable manner, while contributing to the lower consumption of fossil resources and improving the energy supply of the area.(Español) Nota original
